HOFH Partner Spotlight: Ashley Addiction Treatment

Published by: HOFH

For nearly 40 years, Ashley Addiction Treatment has worked to help individuals overcome their substance use disorders with programs designed to achieve lasting recovery through innovative and comprehensive treatment. Located on the Chesapeake Bay in Northern Maryland, the facility is a nonprofit organization that aims to put the patient first and make treatment both accessible and affordable.

One of Ashley’s focus areas is pain management, particularly for individuals who suffer from chronic pain. The goal is to help individuals recover from pain rather than only manage it. The center uses an integrated model that combines mind, body, and spiritual health, which contribute to the totality of healing.

“Chronic pain becomes particularly debilitating when a person’s primary identity has become that of a ‘pain patient,’” says Dr. Greg Hobelmann, Co-CEO/President of Ashley. “Furthermore, people suffering with debilitating chronic pain tend to experience decreased perceived quality of life and lose their sense of self-efficacy. The primary focus for that person becomes their pain and how to fix it. As a result, the pain increases because of a diminished pain tolerance.”

The pain recovery program at Ashley uses new and different treatments with the goal of helping patients either completely eradicate pain or minimize the pain to maximize functionality and mobility. From incorporating non-addictive medications to physical fitness to yoga to individualized and group therapy, the treatment plans emphasize a standard of care that aims to help individuals live a life free from opiates, while also helping them enjoy a higher quality of life overall.

As a Founding Member of Hall of Fame Health (HOFH), Ashley seeks to help decrease the stigma around mental health and chronic pain.

“Athletes are used to being in the spotlight. However, sometimes they are faced with more shame because their struggle is public,” adds Dr. Hobelmann. “We aim to help them deal with this intensified shame but also to help them understand that they can get better, just like anyone else struggling with the same issues.”

“Hall of Fame Health is honored to welcome Ashley Addiction Treatment as a valued partner,” says Ryan Cain Executive Vice President of HOFH. “Many current and retired athletes deal with chronic pain. Ashely’s approach to treatment can be life-changing for these individuals.”

“We want people to know that help is out there and available. Trying to do it on your own is incredibly difficult if not impossible,” continues Dr. Hobelmann. “Treatment can dramatically improve your life and help you feel better than you ever did before.”

In addition to pain recovery, Ashley offers a variety of addiction treatment programs including one that specifically addresses relapses. Care options include residential care, outpatient care, extended care, medication-supported recovery, family services, and recovery support.

Ashley joins the HOFH’s network of elite facilities, known as Elite Care Centers. The facilities are comprised of those recognized as leaders in their respective fields. Each partner is chosen and vetted by HOFH as well as accredited by a third party.
